Person Supported Receives Statewide Recognition for Employment Excellence

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Elmira, NY | Watkins Glen, NY – The Arc of Chemung-Schuyler is pleased to announce that Michelle "Micky" Sills (Elmira), a person supported by the agency, was among 45 statewide 2021 Joslin Outstanding Performers recognized through New York State Industries for the Disabled, Inc’s (NYSID) 18th annual people-centered awards program.

Micky is being recognized for her dedication to SeeUs Commercial Cleaning, where she has been part of the Mobile Custodial Crew for several years, previously working on The Arc’s production floor, and in total with the agency for nearly 30 years. Over the course of her time with The Arc, Micky has rarely missed a day of work and can easily work alongside of any of the different work crews because of all the friendships she has made. She even helps train new people on the Mobile Custodial Work Crew. When asked what she likes best about her job, Micky replied, “I like working hard, I enjoy working with my supervisor, and I like earning a paycheck.”

SeeUs Commercial Cleaning is part of The Arc of Chemung-Schuyler’s Business Services Division, which provides businesses, government agencies, and local non-profits with cost effective and quality business solutions including secure document destruction, commercial cleaning, food copackaging, auto detailing, and more. Supporting one of The Arc’s businesses not only provides a customer with a solution to their needs but also develops vocational skills and work habits in order for individuals supported to be employed at local businesses.

NYSID is a not-for-profit business which administers Preferred Source contracts for products and services in support of state and local government procurement budgets. NYSID’s annual Joslin Awards Program celebrates excellence in Preferred Source employment by New Yorkers with disabilities. More than 920 individuals have been named Joslin Outstanding Performers since 2004. All Outstanding Performers receive a certificate of achievement, cash award, and are featured in an annual yearbook.
