The Arc of Chemung-Schuyler Unveils New Handicapped Accessible Bocce Courts

Elmira, NY – The Arc of Chemung is pleased to unveil their new handicapped accessible bocce courts, behind their main office. A ribbon cutting event will take place behind The Arc of Chemung, located at 711 Sullivan Street in Elmira, on Tuesday, June 21st at 2:00 p.m. Media partners and members of our community are invited to attend.

Two 12’ x 60' concrete bocce ball courts, with wheelchair access, were constructed thanks to grant funds awarded from NYSARC Trust Services and the Community Foundation of Elmira-Corning and the Finger Lakes, Inc., both who provide ongoing support to The Arc of Chemung’s Recreation Program.

The Arc of Chemung’s Recreation Program provides recreation, socialization and leisure opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. People with intellectual and developmental disabilities living in the community are very often socially isolated and lack the social skills to pursue a life with meaningful relationships.

The courts are open for use by members of our community. More information on their use can be obtained by contacting John Domanski, The Arc of Chemung’s Recreation Coordinator, at (607) 734-6151 ext. 221.
