RE: The Arc of Chemung Awarded Grants from NYSARC Trust Services
to Support Recreational and Guardianship Opportunities for people with disabilities in Chemung County

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Elmira, NY – The Arc of Chemung announces that it has been awarded $31,891.90 in grants from the Trustee Management Board of NYSARC Trust Services to support The Arc of Chemung’s recreation and guardianship programs.
Recreation Program: The Arc of Chemung’s Recreation Program, which received $15,000, creates recreation, socialization, and leisure opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. People with intellectual and developmental disabilities living in the community are often socially isolated and lack the social skills to pursue a life with meaningful relationships.
Guardianship Program: The Arc of Chemung’s Guardianship Program, which received $16,891.90, administers guardianship services under the auspices of NYSARC, Inc. Corporate Guardianship Program. This is a program that is intended to provide guardianship supports to individuals in need of such supports but who have limited availability of family or other natural supports to fulfill this role. The Guardianship Program focuses on the best interests of individuals, while taking into consideration the personal wishes, preferences and beliefs that afford each individual the greatest amount of independence and participation in decisions affecting the person’s life.
