FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Elmira, NY—The Arc of Chemung announces a new and unique collaboration with the Elmira-Corning Regional Airport, and Delta. The Wings for Autism® / Wings for All® event, taking place on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at the Elmira-Corning Regional Airport, will provide a mock flight experience for participants.

Many people with autism and intellectual/developmental disabilities and their families have tried unsuccessfully or have not had the confidence to travel by air. The sights, sounds, and movement by thousands of people in a busy airport can be overwhelming. Wings for Autism®, a national initiative of The Arc, gives people with Autism, intellectual/developmental disabilities, and their families the opportunity to participate in an airport rehearsal program to help them feel more comfortable with air travel. Participants will be able to go through check-in, TSA security, board the plane, fasten their seatbelts, and prepare for take-off.

Each Wings for Autism® / Wings for All® event brings together people with Autism and intellectual/developmental disabilities, their families plus The Arc’s staff, community volunteers, the airport, airlines and TSA.
